A USB port, Bluetooth connectivity, Chevy’s MyLink multimedia system, and a 7-inch touchscreen display are standard. There is a good amount of standard features found in the Trax though, especially for its price. One byproduct of the Trax’s uniquely tall styling: plenty of headroom for both front and rear passengers. Translation: don’t expect to do much hauling in the Trax beyond luggage. Behind the rear seats is 18.7 cubic feet of cargo space, which is slightly larger than what you’ll find in a midsize sedan but about half of what comes in your typical compact SUV. Inside, the Trax is also heavily influenced by the Sonic, copying the motorcycle-esque digital speedometer with an analog tachometer setup in the instrument panel. There are three available trim levels: LS, LT, and LTZ. Fuel economy figure are estimated at 26/34 mpg city/highway for FWD models, while AWD models lag slightly behind at 24/31 mpg. The 138-hp, turbocharged 1.4-liter four-cylinder is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission front-wheel drive is standard, with all-wheel drive optional. Under the hood, the Trax is powered by a familiar engine that it shares with the Sonic and Cruze. 16-inch wheels are standard, with larger 18-inch wheels found on the line-topping LTZ trim. The nose bears great resemblance to the one found on the subcompact Sonic. From the outside, the Trax bears some resemblance to the Buick Encore with an upright appearance that has high sides but a very short wheelbase giving it a hint of stubbiness. The Trax debuted last year as a part of a new wave of smaller than compact SUVs that are starting to hit the market, including competitors like the Mazda CX-3 and Honda HR-V. The 2016 Chevrolet Trax returns for the new model year unchanged, minus the addition of a few new exterior paint options.
